This homemade bourbon ice cream recipe was inspired by a recent trip to New Orleans, Louisiana to celebrate our first wedding anniversary!
If you didn’t know, New Orleans is known for many iconic cocktails, but bourbon in general is very popular there which got me thinking…
A homemade bourbon ice cream would be SO good!
My husband and I both love bourbon and there’s just so many great flavors that compliment it! That’s where the brown butter bourbon chocolate blondies come in…

Homemade Bourbon Ice Cream
One thing I love about this recipe is that it’s so simple! I decided to make a regular ice cream this time, no egg yolks!
A homemade ice cream with egg yolks (also known as custard) is extra creamy and delicious, but I wanted this particular flavor to feel a little “lighter”!
Custard is amazing though! Here’ are’s a few of my favorite custard base ice creams:
- Brown Sugar Pop Tart Ice Cream
- Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream
- Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream
The Key Ingredients
Obviously the star of the show!
This was my first time using alcohol in an ice cream and I have to say, I was a fan! This homemade bourbon ice cream is officially one of my new favorite flavors!
I used 2 Tablespoons of bourbon (Maker’s Mark to be exact!) and felt that was the perfect amount to really recognize the flavor, but not alter the texture of this ice cream too much… since alcohol doesn’t freeze!
Not to mention, I knew i’d be getting some bonus bourbon flavor from the blondies as well!
But you can determine how much alcohol you want to use! If you want a stronger bourbon flavor, I would use 4 Tablespoons at most!
Vanilla Bean Paste
Normally I use pure vanilla extract in my ice creams and desserts, but I’ve been wanting to try a vanilla bean paste for a long time and thought this was the perfect opportunity!
This is the vanilla bean paste that I got and has been recommended to me in the past!
I loved it. It’s a splurge, but it just has the most incredible flavor… that characteristic vanilla taste! Aesthetically, I just love seeing those tiny black specks in my ice cream!
Fresh vanilla bean would also (of course) be amazing!!
This creamy brown sugar ice cream has such a rich, deep flavor that really compliments the bourbon.
If you want an even more decadent recipe, you can use dark brown sugar! I used light brown sugar for this because it’s what I had on hand, but next time I’ll try the dark!
If you’re not a fan of brown sugar, you can use my favorite easy homemade vanilla ice cream recipe!
Brown Butter Bourbon Chocolate Blondies
You’ll notice that I love incorporating my favorite dessert recipes into my own ice cream! And all I have to say regarding these brown butter bourbon blondies is wow.
You can guarantee I’ll be bringing these to my next gathering because I know they’ll be a crowd pleaser! They’re also easy to make with ingredients I always have on hand!
My husband was very thankful that there were a few extras for us to snack on!!
A couple notes on the recipe: I used 2 Tbsp of bourbon and dark chocolate chips!
My Favorite Ice Cream Accessories
The Best Budget Ice Cream Maker
I’ve been using this Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker for almost 3 years now and I can’t say enough good things about it!
It’s simple to use, affordable, makes the creamiest ice cream, it’s easy to store, and it’s cute.
If you have a different ice cream machine, just make sure you follow your manufacturer’s instructions!
If you’re looking for no churn ice cream recipes, try this bourbon vanilla no churn ice cream recipe!
My favorite ice cream scoop!
I’ve been through a few ice cream scoops at this point, and this one is by far the best! It’s affordable, very heavy duty, and it’s comes in all these cute colors!
Ice Cream Containers
You’ll want an air-tight container to store your ice cream in. This will keep your homemade ice cream nice and fresh and prolong the formation of ice crystals!
I’ve been using these ice cream containers for a while now and they’ve been good to me! I do wish I could find some that are more my aesthetic (lol I am who I am😂) but I haven’t stumbled upon anything yet!
